Overview

Lactobacillus rhamnosus R0011 (also known as Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus R0011 or Rosell-11) is a probiotic bacterial strain that functions as a live biotherapeutic agent. Originally isolated in 1976 at Institut Rosell and currently part of the Lallemand Health Solutions portfolio, this strain is widely utilized for its ability to maintain intestinal homeostasis. Its mechanism of action involves competitive inhibition of pathogen adhesion, enhancement of the intestinal epithelial barrier, and immunomodulation through the downregulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-8, and TNF-α. While frequently formulated in combination with Lactobacillus helveticus R0052 (under the brand name Lacidofil), R0011 has been independently investigated for its efficacy in treating antibiotic-associated diarrhea, as an adjuvant in Helicobacter pylori eradication, and for its potential benefits in alcoholic liver disease and the gut-brain axis.
