Overview

Lactobacillus salivarius Ls-33 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain originally classified under the genus Lactobacillus (now reclassified as *Ligilactobacillus*). It is a Gram-positive, non-spore forming, homofermentative rod-shaped bacterium that naturally inhabits the human gastrointestinal and urogenital tracts[5][6]. As a probiotic, it is used to promote gut health by modulating intestinal microbiota composition and inhibiting pathogenic bacteria through competitive exclusion and production of antimicrobial substances[2][5]. Clinical studies in humans have shown that supplementation with this strain can alter fecal microbiota ratios but has not demonstrated significant effects on metabolic syndrome in obese adolescents[1]. In vitro studies indicate strong acid/bile tolerance, adhesion to intestinal cells, inhibition of common pathogens (e.g., *Salmonella typhimurium*, *Staphylococcus aureus*, *Escherichia coli*, *Listeria monocytogenes*), anti-inflammatory properties (including protection against colitis in animal models), immune modulation (e.g., increased IL-10 induction), and potential benefits for mucosal integrity and immune function[2][5].
