Overview
Lactobacillus vaginal suppository is a live biotherapeutic product being evaluated for the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) and recurrent cystitis in women. The treatment aims to restore the healthy vaginal microbiota, specifically increasing the population of *Lactobacillus* species. These beneficial bacteria produce lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide, which create an acidic environment that inhibits the colonization and proliferation of uropathogens such as *Escherichia coli*. This specific formulation is being studied in a long-term (1-year) clinical trial at Okayama University Hospital, sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, to assess its safety and efficacy in reducing recurrence rates in adult women.
