Overview

*Lactococcus lactis* LB1022 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain investigated for its role in preventing the "atopic march," the clinical progression from atopic dermatitis (AD) to allergic airway diseases such as asthma. Often studied in combination with fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) as a synbiotic, LB1022 modulates the gut microbiota to favor the growth of short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)-producing taxa like *Lactobacillus* and *Bifidobacterium*. This shift increases fecal SCFA concentrations, which in turn regulates systemic and mucosal immunity by suppressing Th2-skewed cytokine responses and reducing serum IgE and Th2-associated IgG1 levels. The strain's activity is characterized by its ability to coordinate the microbiota-gut-skin-lung axis to mitigate both epidermal and respiratory allergic inflammation.
