Lactococcus lactis MG1363-pMG36e-glucagon-like peptide-1 is an engineered, next-generation probiotic strain designed to provide continuous delivery of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). It is constructed by transforming the *Lactococcus lactis* MG1363 strain with the pMG36e-GLP-1 expression vector, which contains the GLP-1 (1-37) gene sequence. This microbial therapy aims to overcome the short half-life of native GLP-1 by utilizing the bacteria as a living factory for the peptide within the gut. Research indicates that this strain exerts neuroprotective effects in models of Parkinson's disease by modulating oxidative stress, inhibiting ferroptosis via the Keap1/Nrf2/GPX4 pathway, and redressing gut dysbiosis. It has also been investigated for potential applications in Alzheimer's disease and obesity induced by a high-fat diet.
