Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactogyn is a probiotic combination product developed by Vésale Pharma, containing three specific strains of beneficial bacteria: *Lactobacillus crispatus* (strain LMG S-29995), *Lactobacillus brevis*, and *Lactobacillus acidophilus*. Formulated as an oral capsule, it is designed to restore and maintain a healthy vaginal microbiota, particularly in women treated for bacterial vaginosis (BV). The mechanism of action involves the colonization of the vaginal environment by these Lactobacillus species, which produce lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide. This process helps maintain a low vaginal pH, thereby inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria and reducing the recurrence rate of BV. Clinical evidence from a Phase 2 randomized placebo-controlled trial demonstrated that oral administration of this combination significantly decreased the recurrence of bacterial vaginosis over a four-month period.
