Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactol is a commercial synbiotic formulation developed by Bioplus Life Sciences and marketed by Natures Only. It is designed to support gastrointestinal health and manage symptoms of various gastrointestinal disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), functional constipation, and functional abdominal pain. Lactol is co-formulated as a tablet, capsule, or sachet containing the lactic acid-producing probiotic bacterium *Bacillus coagulans* (historically referred to as *Lactobacillus sporogenes*) and the prebiotic fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS). The combination of the spore-forming probiotic, which is highly resistant to gastric acid, and the prebiotic FOS enhances the survival, germination, and proliferation of beneficial bacteria in the large intestine. This helps restore normal gut microbiota, improve digestion, and modulate the local immune response.
