Overview

**Lactoplantibacillus plantarum CECT7527** is a specific probiotic bacterial strain originally classified as *Lactobacillus plantarum* CECT 7527 and now reclassified under *Lactoplantibacillus*. It has been studied primarily for its role in reducing cholesterol levels as part of a multi-strain probiotic approach. The mechanism of action includes high bile salt hydrolase activity, which leads to breakdown of bile, increased bile acid deconjugation, and subsequent increased cholesterol utilization for new bile salt synthesis. The strain also directly assimilates cholesterol from its environment and can bind cholesterol to its cell surface. It is effective at surviving gastrointestinal conditions and adhering to intestinal cells, indicating its suitability as an oral probiotic. Developed and manufactured by AB-BIOTICS, it has been included individually and in combination with CECT7528 and CECT7529 for clinical evaluation aimed at hypercholesterolemia and cardiovascular risk reduction.
