Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactosectan is a mucosal protector developed by Novintethical Pharma SA for the management of symptoms associated with lactose intolerance. It is a combination product containing xyloglucan, a plant-derived polysaccharide from tamarind seeds, and pea protein. Unlike traditional treatments that provide exogenous lactase enzymes to digest lactose, Lactosectan works through a mechanical mechanism of action. It forms a protective bio-barrier or film over the intestinal mucosa, which helps to restore the physiological functions of the intestinal wall and prevents the adherence of irritants and pathogens. This barrier reduces the gastrointestinal symptoms triggered by undigested lactose, such as abdominal pain, bloating, flatulence, and diarrhea, by protecting the gut lining from osmotic and inflammatory stressors.
