Overview

Lactosucrose (4g-β-d-galactosylsucrose) is a synthetic trisaccharide oligosaccharide composed of galactose, glucose, and fructose. It is indigestible in humans and functions as a prebiotic, being selectively utilized by intestinal Bifidobacterium species. Key effects include the modulation of gut microbiota (increasing Bifidobacterium abundance), potential improvement of body weight in underweight populations (notably in schizophrenia inpatients), enhancement of self-efficacy in depressive patients, and improvement of intestinal calcium absorption. It is not metabolized by human digestive enzymes but fermented by gut bacteria to beneficial short-chain fatty acids. Primary indication is as a prebiotic dietary supplement for modulating gut microbiota and supporting gastrointestinal and metabolic health[1][3][5][7][9].
