Overview
Lactovac-C is a veterinary vaccine developed by MSD Animal Health for the active immunization of pregnant cattle. It is a multivalent, inactivated vaccine containing antigens from bovine rotavirus (strains 1005/78 and Holland), bovine coronavirus (strain 800), and enterotoxigenic *Escherichia coli* (serotype O9:K35, strain S1091/83) expressing F5 (K99) and F41 fimbrial adhesins. The vaccine is administered subcutaneously to pregnant cows and heifers to stimulate the production of specific antibodies. These antibodies are subsequently transferred to the newborn calf through colostrum, providing passive immunity that reduces the severity and duration of neonatal diarrhea (calf scour) caused by these pathogens. The formulation is a suspension for injection and includes aluminum hydroxide and saponin (Quil A) as adjuvants.
