Overview

A combination of two laxative medications that work through different mechanisms. Lactulose is a synthetic disaccharide that is broken down in the colon into products that pull water into the colon, softening stools. Linaclotide is a guanylate cyclase-C receptor agonist that stimulates intestinal fluid secretion by promoting chloride and bicarbonate efflux into the intestinal lumen through activation of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator.
