Overview
LACTYFERRIN Forte + ZINC Defense is a combination therapy consisting of liposomal bovine lactoferrin and liposomal zinc, developed by Sesderma Laboratories and investigated by Jose David Suarez, MD. Bovine lactoferrin is a multifunctional glycoprotein that acts as an ACE2 receptor blocker, potentially preventing the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein from binding to and entering host cells. The zinc component is intended to provide additional antiviral and immune-supportive effects. Both components are encapsulated in 100 nm nanoliposomes (phosphatidylcholine) to enhance bioavailability and stability. The combination was evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial for the treatment of non-hospitalized patients with mild to moderate COVID-19.
