LAE102 is a potent, selective monoclonal antibody that acts as an antagonist of activin A receptor type 2A (ActRIIA/ACVR2A), a receptor involved in muscle regeneration and lipid metabolism. By inhibiting the Activin-ActRII pathway, LAE102 has been shown in preclinical models to increase lean mass and decrease fat mass. When combined with a GLP1R agonist, it can further reduce fat mass while significantly mitigating the loss of lean mass typically induced by GLP1R agonists. This mechanism positions LAE102 as a promising candidate for quality weight control—reducing fat while preserving muscle—in obesity and overweight patients. The drug is being developed by Laekna Therapeutics with Eli Lilly as a clinical collaborator for global development. Clinical trials are ongoing for obesity and overweight (Phase 1), with additional investigational new drug (IND) approvals for metastatic solid tumors and non-small cell lung cancer[1][2][5][6][7][8].
