LAE103 is a monoclonal antibody that selectively targets the activin receptor type 2B (ActRIIB). It functions as a high-affinity functional antagonist, completely inhibiting signaling transduced by ligands such as activin A, B, AB, MSTN (myostatin), activin E, and GDF3. These ligands are implicated in muscle atrophy and lipid accumulation. Preclinical studies indicate that while LAE102 (an ActRIIA-selective antibody) alone significantly induces muscle growth and reduces fat mass in mice, the combination of LAE102 with LAE103 produces a synergistic effect on muscle increase and fat loss. The primary indications under investigation for LAE103 include sarcopenia, muscular atrophy disorders, muscle fibrosis, and liver cirrhosis. The drug is being developed by Laekna Therapeutics[1][2][3][4][6].
