It targets the apelin pathway, which involves the apelin receptor (APJ or APLNR), a G protein-coupled receptor that is widely expressed in tissues relevant to metabolic health, including the hypothalamus, adipose tissue, and the cardiovascular system. The apelin-APJ system is an endogenous signaling pathway that plays a significant role in regulating energy metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and fluid homeostasis. By modulating this pathway, LAE125 is intended to address metabolic dysregulation and facilitate weight management in patients with obesity.
