Overview

Laggera pterodonta is a perennial herb in the Asteraceae family, widely used in traditional medicine across China and Africa. The plant contains a variety of bioactive compounds including sesquiterpenes (notably pterodontic acid and pterodondiol), flavonoids, monoterpenes, triterpenes, cyclitols, alkaloids, and essential oils. Extracts from Laggera pterodonta have demonstrated antiviral activity against influenza A virus (by inhibiting the TLR7/MyD88/TRAF6/NF-κB signaling pathway), dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV-2), herpes simplex viruses 1 and 2, enterovirus 71 (EV71), as well as hepatoprotective effects via antioxidant mechanisms[1][4][5][6]. Clinical studies indicate efficacy in treating acute bronchiolitis in children[6]. Traditionally it is also used for inflammation, jaundice, malaria (especially pediatric cases), bronchitis, sore throat relief ("lingdancao" buccal tablets), and other respiratory tract infections[5][7][8].
