Overview
Lagricel Ofteno is an ophthalmic solution containing sodium hyaluronate (a derivative of hyaluronic acid) as its active ingredient. It is primarily used as an eye lubricant for the treatment and relief of dry eye symptoms and ocular surface irritation. Sodium hyaluronate acts by mimicking natural tears, providing lubrication and moisture to the ocular surface, promoting corneal healing after procedures such as photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), and improving comfort in patients with dry eye disease. The mechanism of action involves enhancing tear film stability and protecting epithelial cells on the ocular surface through its viscoelastic properties[1][3][7]. Clinical studies have evaluated both single-dose and multi-dose formulations for safety, tolerability, and efficacy in conditions like dry eye disease and post-PRK recovery[3][6][8].
