LAIS Mites is a sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) developed by Lofarma for the treatment of allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma induced by house dust mites (*Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus* and *Dermatophagoides farinae*). The product is distinguished by its use of monomeric allergoids, which are allergens chemically modified through a process called carbamylation. This modification alters the lysine residues of the allergen proteins, significantly reducing their IgE-binding capacity (allergenicity) while preserving their T-cell epitopes (immunogenicity). This shift allows for the administration of high allergen doses with a reduced risk of systemic allergic reactions. The therapeutic mechanism involves the induction of peripheral T-cell tolerance, characterized by a shift from a Th2-type immune response to a Th1-type response, the expansion of regulatory T-cells (Tregs), and the stimulation of allergen-specific IgG4 antibodies, which act as blocking antibodies to prevent IgE-mediated mast cell degranulation.
