Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LAIV H5N2 is a live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) developed as a candidate for pre-pandemic protection against the H5N2 subtype of avian influenza virus. This vaccine is cold-adapted, meaning it is designed to replicate efficiently in the cooler temperatures of the upper respiratory tract (nasopharynx) but not in the warmer lower respiratory tract, thereby reducing the risk of severe illness while still eliciting an immune response. It aims to stimulate both humoral (antibody-mediated) and cellular immune responses against the H5 hemagglutinin and N2 neuraminidase surface glycoproteins of the influenza virus. Clinical trials have demonstrated its safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in healthy adult volunteers.
