Laizi Tacrolimus Ointment

Laizi (莱兹) is a topical immunosuppressant formulation of tacrolimus developed and marketed by Sunshine Mandi Pharmaceutical in China. As a small molecule calcineurin inhibitor, tacrolimus exerts its therapeutic effect by binding to the intracellular protein FKBP-12, forming a complex that inhibits calcineurin phosphatase activity. This inhibition prevents the dephosphorylation of the nuclear factor of activated T-cells (NFAT), thereby suppressing T-lymphocyte activation and the subsequent production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-2 (IL-2). The drug is specifically approved in China for the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis and other dermatologic inflammatory conditions, providing a non-steroidal alternative for local immune response suppression.
