Overview

LAM226 is a small molecule, hydroxylated derivative of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) being developed by Laminar Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It utilizes a novel therapeutic approach known as Membrane Lipid Therapy (melitherapy), which focuses on modifying the lipid composition and structure of cell membranes to regulate cell signaling. LAM226 selectively targets neurons through specific omega-3 transporters and has demonstrated the ability to inhibit Tau phosphorylation and restore the expression of synaptic proteins such as synaptophysin and SNAP25. In preclinical models of familial Alzheimer's disease, the compound has shown potential in improving cognitive performance and recovering healthy brain biomarkers.
