Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lamb stomach extract is a biologically active substance derived from the fourth stomach (abomasum) of young lambs. It contains digestive enzymes such as rennin (chymosin) and pepsin, which aid in protein digestion and promote gastrointestinal function. In clinical use, it is often formulated with vitamin B12 (as in "lamb's tripe extract and vitamin B12 capsule") for the treatment of chronic gastritis, atrophic gastritis with intestinal metaplasia, upper abdominal discomfort, bloating, loss of appetite due to chronic gastric conditions, infantile regurgitation (spitting up), and indigestion-related diarrhea. The mechanism involves protection of the gastric mucosa, enhancement of protein breakdown, stimulation of gastrointestinal gland secretion, improvement in digestive tract blood circulation and nutrient absorption capacity, modulation of gut flora balance, and increased resistance to inflammation. Clinical studies have shown efficacy in reversing atrophic changes and intestinal metaplasia associated with precancerous gastric lesions[3][5][8][9].
