Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lambda-cyhalothrin is a synthetic type II pyrethroid insecticide and ectoparasiticide. It is a mixture of highly active isomers of cyhalothrin, originally developed by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) and later commercialized by Syngenta. Lambda-cyhalothrin acts as a fast-acting neurotoxin by targeting voltage-gated sodium channels in the axonal membranes of neurons. By preventing the closure of these channels, it induces persistent membrane depolarization, leading to hyperexcitation, paralysis, and death of the target pests. In veterinary medicine, it is approved and widely used as a topical ectoparasiticide (such as pour-on or spray formulations) to control external parasites, including lice, ticks, mites, fleas, and horn flies, primarily in livestock such as beef cattle.
