Overview
Lamotrigine is an antiepileptic drug used to treat epilepsy and bipolar disorder. It works by calming overactive nerves in the body, primarily through the inhibition of excitatory neurotransmitter release via voltage-sensitive sodium channels and voltage-gated calcium channels in neurons. It is used to control seizures in epilepsy and to stabilize mood in bipolar disorder, preventing episodes of depression and mania.
