Overview

Lanbotulinumtoxin-A is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A produced by the Lanzhou Institute of Biological Products in China. It is a neurotoxic protein that acts as an acetylcholine release inhibitor and neuromuscular blocking agent. Like other botulinum toxin type A products, it works by blocking the release of acetylcholine at neuromuscular junctions, resulting in temporary muscle paralysis or relaxation. Lanbotulinumtoxin-A is used for both therapeutic and cosmetic indications similar to other botulinum toxin type A products (such as onabotulinumtoxinA), including treatment of muscle spasticity disorders (e.g., cervical dystonia), blepharospasm, strabismus, chronic migraine prophylaxis, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), overactive bladder symptoms due to neurological conditions, and reduction of facial wrinkles[6]. The product has been approved for use in China since 1997 and is marketed under the brand names Lantox and Prosigne.
