Lancovutide is an investigational peptide drug developed for the treatment of cystic fibrosis. It functions by activating chloride channels, specifically calcium-dependent chloride channels (CaCC) or TMEM-16A, which are distinct from the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein. This mechanism aims to promote chloride efflux and rehydrate airway mucus, thereby bypassing the underlying CFTR defect in cystic fibrosis patients. Clinical trials have investigated its efficacy and safety in adolescents and adults with cystic fibrosis via inhalation.
