laninamivir octanoate

Laninamivir octanoate is a long-acting neuraminidase inhibitor used for the treatment and prevention of influenza A and B. It is administered via inhalation, where it acts as a prodrug that is converted in the lungs to its active form, laninamivir. The drug maintains high pulmonary concentrations for several days, allowing effective viral inhibition with a single dose. Laninamivir octanoate has demonstrated efficacy comparable to oseltamivir and zanamivir against seasonal influenza strains (including H1N1, H3N2, and B), as well as activity against oseltamivir-resistant viruses. It was first approved in Japan in 2010 for treatment and later for prophylaxis of influenza[2][3][4][6].
