Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lanolin + olive oil is a topical emollient preparation composed of approximately 70% lanolin and 30% olive oil, specifically developed for neonatal skin care. It functions as a skin barrier emollient by moisturizing and protecting the stratum corneum, thereby preventing skin damage and maintaining skin integrity in preterm and term infants. In a Phase 4 randomized controlled trial conducted at the Innsbruck Medical University, the preparation demonstrated superior efficacy in reducing neonatal dermatitis compared to dexpanthenol ointment. It is a natural product-based formulation without a single discrete biological target, acting through physical and lipid-replenishing mechanisms to support the developing skin barrier in newborns.
