Lanolin hydrous is a purified, fat-like substance obtained from the wool of sheep (*Ovis aries*), containing between 25% and 30% water. It is primarily used as an emollient and occlusive agent in topical formulations to treat or prevent dry, rough, scaly, itchy skin and minor skin irritations such as diaper rash or skin burns from radiation therapy. Lanolin works by forming an oily layer on the surface of the skin that traps water, thereby increasing skin hydration.
