lanopepden

Lanopepden (GSK1322322) is a small molecule peptide deformylase (PDF) inhibitor developed by GSK for the treatment of bacterial infections. It targets the bacterial enzyme peptide deformylase, which is essential for the removal of the N-formyl group from the N-terminal methionine of newly synthesized proteins, a critical step in bacterial protein maturation. By inhibiting this enzyme, lanopepden prevents bacterial protein synthesis and exerts antibacterial activity, primarily against Gram-positive pathogens. It was investigated in clinical trials for acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) and community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), but development has been discontinued.
