Overview

Lanreotide is a synthetic octapeptide and long‐acting analog of somatostatin, a hormone that inhibits the secretion of several other hormones including growth hormone, insulin, and glucagon. It acts primarily as an agonist at somatostatin receptors to reduce the production of growth hormone and other peptides. Lanreotide is used for the long-term treatment of acromegaly in patients who have had an inadequate response to or cannot be treated with surgery or radiotherapy. It is also indicated for adult patients with unresectable, well‐ or moderately-differentiated, locally advanced or metastatic gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) to improve progression-free survival, as well as for the treatment of carcinoid syndrome in adults who require reduction in short‐acting somatostatin analog rescue therapy[1][2][3][4][7]. Developed by Ipsen. Also manufactured by Cipla.
