Overview
The Lanzhou Lamb Rotavirus Vaccine (LLR), marketed under the brand name LuoTeWei, is a live-attenuated oral vaccine developed by the Lanzhou Institute of Biological Products. It has been licensed exclusively in China since 2000. The vaccine is derived from a lamb rotavirus strain (genotype G10P[12]) that was originally isolated from a lamb with diarrhea in 1985 and subsequently attenuated through 37 passages in primary kidney cells of newborn calves. It is indicated for the prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis in children aged 2 months to 3 years, typically administered as a single annual dose for three consecutive years. While it has been widely distributed on China's private market for over two decades, it is not currently included in the national immunization program.
