Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LAPSInsulin Combo (HM14220) is a once-weekly, fixed-dose combination biologic being developed by Hanmi Pharmaceutical for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It consists of LAPSInsulin 115 (HM12470), a long-acting basal insulin analog, and efpeglenatide (LAPSCA-Exendin-4), a long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonist. Both components utilize Hanmi's proprietary LAPSCOVERY (Long-Acting Protein/Peptide Discovery) technology, which conjugates the active peptides to a non-glycosylated human immunoglobulin Fc fragment via a flexible PEG linker to extend their circulating half-lives. By combining a basal insulin with a GLP-1 receptor agonist, LAPSInsulin Combo aims to provide synergistic glycemic control and mitigate the risk of insulin-induced weight gain with the convenience of once-weekly subcutaneous administration. The asset was briefly licensed to Sanofi in 2015 as part of the Quantum Project, but development rights were returned to Hanmi in late 2016.
