Overview

Lapyrium is a quaternary ammonium compound (QAC) with antimicrobial properties. Its primary mechanism of action involves associating with the negatively charged cell membrane of bacterial cells, followed by insertion of its side chain and disruption of the cell membrane. This leads to leakage of cellular contents and eventual cell lysis. QACs like lapyrium are typically more effective against Gram-positive bacteria due to their single cell membrane structure[8]. Lapyrium is used as an antimicrobial agent.
