Overview

Laropiprant + montelukast is a combination of two small molecule drugs investigated for the treatment of asthma and seasonal allergic rhinitis. Laropiprant is a selective antagonist of the prostaglandin D2 receptor subtype DP1, which blocks the action of prostaglandin D2, a mediator involved in inflammation and vasodilation. Montelukast is an antagonist of the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 (CysLT1), inhibiting leukotriene-mediated bronchoconstriction and inflammation. The combination was studied to assess whether dual inhibition could provide additional benefit in respiratory diseases characterized by allergic inflammation. Clinical studies did not demonstrate significant efficacy for laropiprant alone or in combination with montelukast compared to standard treatments or placebo in asthma or allergic rhinitis[1].
