Overview

Lasiodiplodan is a fungal exocellular (1→6)-β-d-glucan, a type of polysaccharide, derived from *Lasiodiplodia theobromae* MMPI. It has demonstrated antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic effects in MCF-7 breast cancer cells. Its mechanism of action involves inducing oxidative stress, activating AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and the Forkhead transcription factor FOXO3a. This leads to increased apoptosis and necrosis, upregulation of mRNA expression for p53, p27, and Bax, and increased activity of Bax and caspase-3, while simultaneously decreasing the activity of p70S6K.
