Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LAT9997 is a therapeutic candidate being developed by Lateral Pharma as a next-generation Stressed Cell Protectant (SCP). It is a 6-amino acid linear peptide fragment derived from human growth hormone, specifically optimized from the earlier candidate LAT8881. LAT9997 acts by targeting LanC-like (LanCL) proteins, which are part of an endogenous protective pathway that senses cellular stress and initiates host protection. By mimicking these natural protective proteins, LAT9997 aims to protect cells from damage and death without the use of opioid mechanisms. It is being investigated for the treatment of neuropathic pain, neurodegenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and ALS), and severe respiratory infections like influenza and COVID-19.
