Latanoprost punctal plug delivery system (L-PPDS) is a sustained-release ocular drug delivery device designed for the treatment of open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It consists of a punctal plug loaded with the prostaglandin analog latanoprost, which is placed intracanalicularly to provide continuous drug release over several weeks. The mechanism of action involves agonism at the prostaglandin F2 alpha receptor, increasing uveoscleral outflow and thereby lowering intraocular pressure. Developed by Mati Therapeutics (originally QLT), L-PPDS aims to improve patient adherence compared to daily eye drops by offering a non-invasive, removable alternative for long-term IOP control[1][4][5].
