Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Latex allergen extract is a biological allergen extract derived from natural rubber latex (NRL), developed by LETI Pharma GmbH. It contains specific allergenic proteins from *Hevea brasiliensis*, including known allergens such as Hev b 1, Hev b 3, Hev b 5, and Hev b 6.02. The extract is primarily used as a diagnostic skin test reagent to identify IgE-mediated hypersensitivity in individuals suspected of having a latex allergy. Its biological activity is standardized in Histamine Equivalent Prick (HEP) units, using histamine as a reference to ensure consistent potency for clinical diagnosis. The extract works by cross-linking IgE antibodies on the surface of mast cells, triggering a localized allergic reaction that serves as a diagnostic indicator.
