Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LAU-PM-05 is an antiviral drug candidate developed by Vectans Pharma for the treatment of herpes virus infections, including herpes labialis (cold sores). The drug utilizes the proprietary Lauriad technology, which is a muco-adhesive buccal tablet (MBT) designed to adhere to the upper gum and provide sustained release of the active ingredient, penciclovir, directly into the oral mucosa. This delivery system aims to achieve high local concentrations of the antiviral agent at the site of viral replication while minimizing systemic exposure and improving patient compliance compared to multiple daily applications of topical creams. LAU-PM-05 is currently in Phase 1/2 clinical development.
