LAUR-701 is a preclinical-stage V-Smart® Nanomedicine being developed by Lauren Sciences for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) and chronic pain. It utilizes the company's proprietary V-Smart® nanotechnology platform, which consists of non-invasive, brain-targeted, polymeric/lipid-based nanoparticles (specifically bolaamphiphilic vesicles) designed to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB). LAUR-701 encapsulates and delivers enkephalin, an endogenous opioid peptide, directly into the central nervous system (CNS). Once inside the CNS, enkephalin is released to modulate opioid receptors, providing safe and effective analgesia and therapeutic benefit without the systemic side effects or addiction potential associated with traditional exogenous opioids.
