Laurocapram is a synthetic small molecule used primarily as a percutaneous (skin) penetration enhancer in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and biotechnological formulations. It facilitates the absorption of drugs and other chemicals through the skin by interacting with lipids in the stratum corneum, increasing lipid fluidity and water content, which enhances permeability. Laurocapram does not extract significant amounts of skin lipids or directly affect stratum corneum proteins but incorporates its dodecyl group into the lipid bilayer to increase molecular motion within the membrane.
