Lavandula stoechas aqueous extract (AqLs) is a phytochemical preparation derived from the aerial parts of the Spanish lavender plant using a decoction method. It is primarily investigated for its potential in managing type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity-related complications. The extract is a complex mixture containing several bioactive phenolic compounds, including naringin, rosmarinic acid, ferulic acid, and p-coumaric acid. Its pharmacological profile is characterized by a multi-faceted mechanism of action that includes the inhibition of pancreatic lipase (reducing dietary fat absorption), potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, and the inhibition of protein glycation. Preclinical evidence in animal models suggests that the extract can significantly lower blood glucose levels, improve lipid profiles, and offer protective effects against liver and kidney damage associated with chronic diabetes. Currently, it is an academic research compound with no known commercial developer or brand name.
