Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lavender + dodder is a combination herbal formulation consisting of extracts from *Lavandula* (lavender) and *Cuscuta* (dodder), traditionally used in Persian medicine. This combination has been studied as a syrup for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) with anxious distress. In clinical trials, the herbal syrup demonstrated efficacy comparable to citalopram in reducing depression scores over six weeks, with a significantly greater reduction in anxiety symptoms at week six compared to citalopram. The mechanism of action is not fully elucidated but is presumed to involve modulation of neurotransmitter systems and anxiolytic/antidepressant effects attributed to both plant components[1][3][4]. The product is considered effective and well-tolerated as an adjunct or alternative therapy for MDD with anxious distress.
