**Lawsonia inermis extract** is derived from the leaves of *Lawsonia inermis* L., commonly known as henna. The extract contains a wide spectrum of bioactive phytochemicals including polyphenols (such as gallic acid, catechin, chlorogenic acid, ellagic acid), flavonoids (e.g., quercetin, apigenin, luteolin), coumarins, naphthoquinones (notably lawsone—2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone), terpenoids (e.g., ursolic acid, betulinic acid), alkaloids, and tannins[1][2][3]. The mechanism of action for *Lawsonia inermis* extract is believed to involve antioxidative activity (scavenging free radicals via polyphenols and flavonoids), antimicrobial (antibacterial and antifungal) effects likely due to naphthoquinones and phenolic compounds, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects via flavonoids and lawsone, cytotoxic activity against several cancer cell lines (possibly via induction of apoptosis and anti-proliferative effects), and wound healing properties. The extract demonstrates antibacterial effects against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, antifungal activity against multiple fungal strains, anti-inflammatory effects, diuretic activity, as well as moderate direct cytotoxicity against breast, colon, and lung cancer cells in vitro[1][2][3]. It is traditionally used for skin, hair, wound therapy, and various health conditions (ulcers, scabies, jaundice, infections, pain, inflammation)[2][3].
