LAX-202 is a potent, orally bioavailable small molecule antagonist of Toll-like receptors 7 and 8 (TLR7/8), currently under development by Laxai Life Sciences. It is primarily being investigated for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and other autoimmune disorders characterized by an overactive innate immune response. TLR7 and TLR8 are endosomal pattern recognition receptors that detect single-stranded RNA; their dysregulation leads to the excessive production of Type I interferons and pro-inflammatory cytokines, which are central to the pathogenesis of lupus. By selectively inhibiting these receptors, LAX-202 aims to suppress the interferon signature and modulate the inflammatory cascade, potentially offering a targeted therapeutic approach for patients with interferon-driven autoimmune conditions.
