Overview

LB-SAL09 is a recombinant endolysin-based antibacterial therapy under development by LysinBio for the treatment of Staphylococcus aureus infections, including methicillin-resistant (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant (VRSA) strains. Derived from bacteriophages, LB-SAL09 functions as a peptidoglycan hydrolase that specifically targets and cleaves the peptidoglycan layer of the S. aureus cell wall, leading to rapid osmotic lysis and cell death. This targeted mechanism of action minimizes the risk of resistance development and spares beneficial host microbiota. LB-SAL09 is currently in the discovery stage for indications such as atopic dermatitis, pneumonia, and bacteremia.
