LB1148 is an oral, broad-spectrum serine protease inhibitor developed to neutralize digestive enzymes in the gastrointestinal tract. By inhibiting these digestive proteases, LB1148 aims to reduce damage to GI tissues during and after surgery, with the goal of reducing post-surgical intra-abdominal adhesions and accelerating the return of normal bowel function. The drug has demonstrated positive results in clinical studies for reducing the incidence and severity of post-surgical abdominal adhesions as well as shortening time to recovery of postoperative bowel function. It is being developed primarily for use in patients undergoing elective bowel resection or other major gastrointestinal surgeries, including cardiovascular surgery involving the GI tract[1][2][5][7][10].
