Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LBP-GLP-1 is a preclinical-stage live biotherapeutic product being developed by Medosome Biotec for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, obesity, and other related indications. The therapy consists of an engineered Lactobacillus probiotic, also known as the Lactobacillus-based Platform (LBP), that is designed to be administered orally. The bacteria are genetically modified to produce and deliver glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) within the gut. The locally delivered GLP-1 activates GLP-1 receptors, aiming to produce systemic metabolic effects similar to injectable GLP-1 receptor agonists but with the convenience of an oral probiotic formulation.
